Kaopectate Reformulation Could Be Dangerous to cats

Kaopectate, the over-the-counter diarrhea treatment for humans, has recently been reformulated to contain an aspirin derivative that is toxic to cats in high doses. Kaopectate now contains bismuth subsalicylate instead of the inert clay aluminum that it previously had in it. As a result, Kaopectate can now result in an aspirin toxicosis in cats just like Pepto-Bismol can if they are given enough of these products.
